MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN!

Important actions you can take to meet the climate challenge!

Not only is it important to do what you can to reduce your eco impact further EVERY year, it's also vital you tell others how important this is so that businesses and politicians take note. Here are some suggestions:

1. SIGN-UP TO THE  10:10 CAMPAIGN RIGHT AWAY & TELL OTHERS TO JOIN YOU - This is a commitment to reduce your carbon footprint by 10% in 2010!  First do so as an individual, then try contacting your employer, your friends & the businesses you know to join up too. Sign-up NOW at www.1010uk.org;

2. iMEASURE - DO YOU? Measure your progress and start recording your ACTUAL gas & electric readings right away using the fab site developed at Oxford University - go to www.imeasure.org.uk. There is a Carbon Club called Kidlington if you wish to join it;

3. NOT STUPID CAMPAIGN - Add your email address to the campaign at www.notstupid.org. Encourage your friends & employers to watch the "The Age of Stupid" film (viewing info at www.ageofstupid.net) and/or organise a viewing!

4. TELL YOUR MP that climate change is important, and that you expect them to lobby for the change that science demands in order to avoid disaster. In just moments you can email your elected representatives by entering your postcode at www.writetothem.org;

5. CALCULATE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT - Try the new government tool as follows. Understand where you need to reduce your impact the most..... www.direct.gov.uk/actonco2;

6. REMAIN POSITIVE - I wouldn't have written this article if I felt the situation was hopeless. We have a unique opportunity to meet this challenge and look back with pride, not regret!  Sell the benefits - you can save a fortune if you reduce your energy & transport bills!

7. GET STARTED - You've now joined the 1010 campaign, so start looking to make changes now!  You may have sorted your cavity wall & loft insulation, and use low energy bulbs/appliances. Why not discuss how you could reduce your day to day travel footprint, and importantly your air-miles. If driving is essential, save a fortune by lift-sharing - find a match at www.liftshare.org!

If you wish to share any stories, frustrations or successes, please contact us at kidlingtonvsclimatechange@yahoo.co.uk

Good luck!
