Blewbury Energy Initiative

The Blewbury Energy Initiative stems from  the 2004 Parish Plan, and is in three phases:

  • 2005-06 Phase 1 - Awareness and education

  • 2006-07 Phase 2 - Surveying and measuring the footprint

  • 2007-08 Phase 3 - Energy saving techniques and renewables

Thermal Imaging    

 

Phase 1 - Awareness and education

• Blewbury Bulletin (monthly to all houses)

• Thermal imaging

• Exhibitions at Village events

• Website (www.blewbury.co.uk/energy) Webmaster OSCA silver medalist 2006

  

Phase 2 - Surveying and measuring the Footprint

• Questionnaire to all homes (17% return)

• Reports to all with recommendations for insulation improvements and more efficient energy use

• Processed by VWHDC computer using property database

• Extrapolated by type (Parish Plan data) to assess housing stock footprint

• Businesses and Public Buildings assessed with consultants

• Financial Support given by grant from NWD-AONB      

  

Housing Carbon footprint:

5136 tonnes of CO2 pa generated by 707 buildings, giving an average of 7.2 tonnes/year/building

  

Phase 3 - Energy saving techniques and renewables

• Advising appropriate alternative energy solutions

• Helping with monitoring aids: Electrisave - IR Thermometer - Energy tracker etc.

• Guidance on insulation and control techniques

• Giving advice on grants

• Advising on suppliers

• Improvements in carbon footprint (ongoing)

  Solar panels

Renewables installed / under construction:

8 Solar Heating - 3 Ground Source Heat Pumps - 2 Photo Voltaic Generators    

 

  

Other possible future involvement

We have been asked to consider transportation under:

• Local community needs

• Wider travel by locals
