Sustainable Kirtlington

Sustainable Kirtlington has been running since September 2007.

 Phase 1 - Info and educational evenings

Our group was launched in September 2007 with a showing of An Inconvenient Truth, followed by a discussion led by Dr Mark New. We held monthly informative meetings from then until February 2008:

Oct 07 ‘Energy in Oxfordshire: what are the choices for our future energy supplies?'

with a 25 min. film about decentralized energy ‘What are we waiting for?' presented by Chris Jardine

 Nov 07. Film: The Power of Community: How Cuba survived ‘Peak Oil'

followed by discussion

Dec 07 ‘How to improve the energy-efficiency of our homes'

discussion led by Rumi Mohideen;

Jan '08 'Climate Change Gardeners' Question Time'

with Laurie Newton and Tim Treacher;

Feb '08 representatives of active groups in Blewbury, North Leigh and Wolvercote described their work in order to help us formulate plans for our own future activities.
Immediate next steps

Involvement of the primary school in a ‘Green Cred' badge scheme (modelled on Daniel Scharf's project in Drayton); preparation for our ‘Footprint Fair' - Saturday 21 June. This will be a great opportunity to share information and ideas about Climate Change with many people in the village and beyond by providing an afternoon of attractive games and activities.

**The Great Green Kirtlington Footprint Fair - sportsfield, beside the Village Hall, Saturday 21st June 2 - 5 pm**

Phase 2.

Thermal imaging of volunteer households and applications for grants to fund improvements to energy efficiency of buildings in the village. Implementation of energy saving measures.

Phase 3.

We have various plans, the most ambitious of which will be helping the owners of the mill raise funds for the installation of a micro hydro plant. We are told that this could provide power for 50-60 homes in the village.
