Launch of Transition Eynsham Area - how local people can work together on climate change and ‘peak oil’.
‘Transition Eynsham Area' (TEA) were delighted to welcome nearly 30 people to their first public meeting held at the Eynsham Baptist Church Hall on Wed. April 8th.We were shown the film "The Power of Community" about how world oil production has ‘peaked' with the prospect of shortages and high prices across the world - and how one country, Cuba, has already coped with this situation. We discussed how we in our area might cope, from the local production and marketing of food to composting, transport, alternative energy, and the restoration of traditional skills which help to cut waste and save money. Other ideas were aired like teaching each other how to grow vegetables and to better use the space we have to be more self-sufficient, ‘collective purchase', also a local ‘skills audit' to see if we can set up a skills/services exchange. Participants were very keen to find out what they can do here and now. We were heartened to hear about the plans of TEA to encourage the setup of ‘working groups'. These would focus on the individual problem areas in order to develop practical solutions. TEA welcomes anyone who wishes to get involved and to join our starter group.
