Why is Britain's future uncertain since the peak and decline of North Sea oil and gas production over the last decade? Why might a global shortfall in the production of energy or certain raw materials precipitate a radical review of what society is able to do for us in the future? These and other questions will be examined as we look at the difficulties of maintaining the affluence of modern society against the ecological limits that are influencing present economic and social trends. Rather than simply pursuing “more growth” as the solution to today's problems might the solution be to accept “less”? |
