Geo Engineering - where is the science on this?

the topic of GeoEngineering is one that fascinates me (from a science fiction lover's point of view), but from a real life point of view fills me with a mix of excitement at the possibilities and dread at the potential monumental foolhardiness of some of the proposed solutions.

Anyway, my question is:

What (if any) serious research has been carried out on the practicalilty, efficiency and potential benefits/pitfalls of Geo Engineering "solutions" to climate change?

Cheers,

Gobion

Hi there,

Doing some quick Googling, I've found a few pages which might help:

Real Climate discussion about geo-engineering

and the BBC programme "Five Ways to Save the World"

I'm sure there are other, more academic, pages, but these are interesting introductions to the discussion.

 Cheers,

 Hannah

similar to terraforming http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geo-engineering geo-engineering could provide a real solution at a smallish cost. pumping sulpahtes into the hig atmosphere, aluminium spheres to reflect light, solar shields. all have been suggested and could be a reality in 50 years. the problem will be deciding at what level to 'set the thermostat'. I imagine someone in svalbard may have a different opinion to someone in chad.

Here is academic information about macro/geo engineering from a conference held in 2003 http://www.tyndall.ac.uk/events/past_events/cmi.shtml
