Nuclear, wind, solar? What's afoot in Oxon

What do you think about nuclear power generation in Oxfordshire? Would you prefer more windfarms, more solar, or decentralised energy production instead? Should we focus on energy efficiency? What questions do you have about future energy? Post your comments, questions and debates below.

Nuclear power comes with a lot of risks, and having a power station in such a densely populated area as Oxfordshire probably isn't too wise. Didn't Didcot Power Station just have a fire there this past week as well? We should be considering thorium, it is slightly radioactive but the waste is not as bad as uranium. Here is a link which gives a basic outline to thorium http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf62.html

I don't think that we would be able to run the entire of Oxfordshire on wind power or solar power, although, i think it is possible for us to susidise other energy sources through these method.
There have been very few accidents compared to the amount of stations with nuclear, and it is a very efficient and steady supply of energy, but it is very costly.

I don't think we can live off wind and solar power, but we can use it alongside nuclear.

I think that if we saved a lot more energy, we probably wouldn't need nuclear, and could use a well thought out combination of renewables and gas, from a much more decentralised system. Decentralising energy production to the level of each town or district might give people more ownership of how their energy is produced, and help us to feel the connection between production and use.
