I'm getting ready to head back out to Sri Lanka to continue with my PhD fieldwork.

I visited last summer and despite seeing numerous photographs and video clips, and having read extensively about the impact of the tsunami I was still amazed by the damage that it caused to coastal areas and also by the shear number of NGOs and releif organisations working to help those communities that were affected to recover and redevelop.

My research is focused on post-tsunami coastal ecosystem restoration.  I have lots of questions that I am keen to answer and to do this I am heading to Colombo, the capital city to interview people working in government departments, NGOs and IGOs.  I also hope to talk to a variety of scientists and experts.

I'm going to endeavour to keep this blog updated so that you can see the progress I'm making and also so that I can share my experiences of conducting fieldwork with you.
