Pat Clark Science Co-ordinator for Oxfordshire Federation of WIs.
Since I was knee high to grasshopper, I've been interested in the natural world, and as a member of WI, I have had many opportunties to get involved with environmental and ecological issues. Two years ago, I was appointed Science Co-ordinator for Oxfordshire Federation of WIs (OFWI). In that role, I try to hone in on those science-based issues which are likely to be most interesting and relevant to WI members. At the outset, I chose climate change as one of the main areas of focus, and it was a happy co-incidence that OFWI became a partner organisation with the Environmental Change Institute's Climate-X-Change project. It is a marvellous project - lively, instructive, sociable and a terrific networking opportunity. Among the activities WI members are currently involved in are the Attitude Survey, recruitment of Climate Explorers and plug monitoring. In the planning are a 'Women Scientists' event and a rather special competition, both linked to the Climate-X-Change project - more news in due course!.
